Your Account Is Your Biggest Asset. We Start There.
Your Instagram or YouTube account is not just a social profile. It is your professional identity, your audience relationship, and your commercial asset โ built over time through consistent work. The decision to connect it to any third-party platform deserves honest scrutiny.
This article explains what connecting your account to GigTryst means, what data is requested, and what the platform is designed not to do โ so you can make an informed choice.
The most important thing to understand: Connecting your account to GigTryst is not the same as giving GigTryst access to your account. It means you are authorising Instagram (Meta) or Google (YouTube) to share specific data with GigTryst through their official developer APIs. The data shared is determined by the permission scopes we request โ described below.
Important note: Instagram connection via Meta's API is subject to Meta's App Review process. This feature's availability may vary. Please check your account settings for current status. YouTube connection via Google OAuth is similarly subject to Google's verification process.
What GigTryst Does Not Request
Your password
GigTryst uses Meta's and Google's official OAuth login flows. Your password is entered on their platforms and never transmitted to or seen by GigTryst.
The ability to post on your behalf
The permission scopes requested are read-only. GigTryst does not request and does not have the ability to post content, publish Stories, comment, like, or interact with your account.
Your direct messages
GigTryst does not request access to your DMs on Instagram or YouTube. All communication between you and brands happens within GigTryst's own in-app messaging.
Your follower or following lists
GigTryst does not request access to manage your social graph โ following, unfollowing, or blocking accounts.
What GigTryst Does Receive
When you connect your account, the following data is shared by Meta or Google with GigTryst through their official APIs:
- Follower / subscriber count
- Average views and reach โ from Instagram Insights or YouTube Analytics (note: reach and impressions data comes from your private Insights, not your public profile)
- Engagement rate โ calculated from interactions relative to reach
- Audience demographic data โ including approximate age brackets, gender split, and geographic location of your audience. This is aggregate data about your audience, not about you personally
- Content category signals โ niche indicators from your recent posts
This data is used to build your GigTryst creator profile and to match you with relevant brand collaborations. GigTryst also stores an access token that enables this data to be refreshed โ this token is encrypted and is deleted when you disconnect.
The Developer Program Framework
To access even this limited data, GigTryst must comply with Meta's and Google's developer program policies. These policies specify what data can be accessed, how it must be stored, and how it must be handled. Platforms that violate these policies risk having their API access revoked.
This means your account data is handled within a framework set by Meta and Google โ not just by GigTryst's own policies. However, it is important to be clear: GigTryst is the Data Fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP) for your personal data that we hold. If data is mishandled, your rights are against GigTryst. Meta and Google enforce their developer policies for their own purposes and do not have obligations directly to you as a GigTryst user.
Disconnect Anytime โ Two Ways
You can revoke GigTryst's access to your social accounts at any time. There are two ways:
From GigTryst settings
Go to Profile โ Connected Accounts โ Disconnect. GigTryst stops receiving your data and the access token is deleted.
Directly from Instagram or Google
You can also revoke access directly through Instagram's or Google's own settings โ independently of GigTryst. Refer to Meta's and Google's current help documentation for the specific steps, as menu paths may change.
On disconnection, GigTryst stops receiving new data. Historical engagement metrics that were used to build your profile may be retained for a period consistent with our Privacy Policy and DPDP obligations โ please review the Privacy Policy for details on data retention and your rights to erasure.
What Connection Is Designed to Enable
When your profile includes verified engagement data from Instagram or Google's official APIs, brands reviewing your profile can see consistent, structured information rather than relying solely on manually shared screenshots. Profiles with connected accounts may therefore be easier for brands to evaluate โ which can be a factor in how often your profile is considered for relevant collaborations.
Connection is not required to use GigTryst. Creators can participate without connecting. The choice is yours.
